Founder and Chief Executive Officer
A Denver native, CEO Andy Boian founded dovetail solutions, a full-service professional communications firm specializing in media relations, branding and messaging, crisis and issues management, digital marketing and media, and public affairs on behalf of it’s professional services clients. The firm works with its clients to build mutually beneficial relationships for maximum opportunity through relationship-building and mutual trust as opposed to a transactional one only. As a result, his peers and friendly competitors through PRSA, the Public Relations Society of America, named his firm the “Public Relations Firm of the Year” recently. He has been referred to as a natural “connector,” a term coined in Malcolm Gladwell’s book, The Tipping Point. He began his career in 1993 as a speechwriter and corporate communications executive for a large telecommunications firm, with national responsibility and oversight.
He is engaged in electoral politics at both the national and regional levels, working with a number of candidate and issue-based campaigns. He has served as a senior campaign strategist and advisor for more than 25 years. Additionally, he served on the transition teams for both the nation’s forty-second president and a cabinet member of the nation’s forty-third President. He has been on the faculty of the University of Denver, the University of Colorado and Arapahoe Community College as well as Metropolitan State University of Denver for 14 years and was named a favorite professor two separate times.
He is a recipient of the Denver Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award, the Colorado Statesman’s “Fifty for the Future” and Metropolitan State University of Denver’s “Mover and Shaker” award. Additionally, Andy was also recognized by his alma mater as an Alumnus of Distinction in 2011, the first in political science in the history of the university. In 1999, he was asked to run as a Colorado representative of the Democratic National Committee. After a successful campaign, he served four years at the national level.
Andy is remarkably active in the Denver community. In 2008 he founded ExecConnect, a unique nonprofit 501c3 organization made up of senior executives, community leaders and business owners with a mission to harness the energy of the group’s valued relationships and related knowledge to further the prosperity of the Denver community and help solve some of the metro areas most intractable issues. The foundation has been successful in a wide foray of solutions including the launching of Denver’s Bike Share Program, a mentoring program to keep high school students from dropping out of school and helping to craft a solution for affordable housing in a vibrantly changing rich neighborhood just east of downtown Denver. For nine years, Andy served on the board of the Kempe Foundation, the nation’s leader in the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect, including two years as its chairman. He served six years on the board of the Denver Botanic Gardens including two years as vice chairman. He is currently a board member of DAPS (Denver Association of Professional Services), BBVA Compass Bank, Turbine Labs Advisory Board and PIVOT. He also advises numerous other nonprofit organizations on strategic planning and tangible objective results-based processes. Currently, Andy serves as the chairman of a gubernatorial campaign in California. He is a frequent guest commentator on television news programs and speaks regularly to audiences on corporate and community relationships, specifically focusing on how to better allow both to thrive together and exclusively amongst one another. Additionally, Andy contributes a portion of dovetail solutions’ resources gratis.
