A Holiday Story

December is such a great time of year. The snow is falling, lights are being strung from houses, trees are being decorated, and hot cocoa with tiny marshmallows warms the bones.

The Christmas of 1987 will always be special to me. Not because I remember it, as I was just a little girl, but because of the gift someone special gave me that continues to be my tradition to this day.

Twenty-two years ago, to my delight, a little angel came into my life. If I could draw her for you, she would have a simple triangle body, with a round head, some scraggly hair, no legs, no arms, two rosy cheeks and a beautiful smile. Standing all of 6 inches tall, her dress is made of cardstock, and her hair is made of raffia. The best thing about her though, is the date in my Aunt’s handwriting, just on the inside of her skirt.

This little angel became a staple of my family’s Christmas tree each year, and something I will always treasure, since it came from someone who was such a special person in my life.

Each year, after picking the perfect tree, dangling the lights from limb to limb and adorning almost every branch with a sentimental ornament, I would finally get to be held in my Dad’s arms and lifted to the top of the tree, where I would place my angel ever so carefully.

Now, living in Colorado and on my own, I can’t always be home for tree decorating with my family. However, I can always count on coming home Christmas Eve to a beautiful tree, and the angel waiting patiently to be set up on top by me, still with my Dad’s help, of course.

Traditions are everywhere you look, at home and at work. Here at dovetail solutions, our tradition is simple – investing in our community.  Each day we help place people into the community to make a difference.  And after a time, they not only see a difference in themselves, but they begin to see a difference in their company and brand as well.  From there they continue to invest, and the tradition grows.

Take time now, and every day, to share your traditions, values and goals with others. It doesn’t always have to cost much or be something big…  It can be as simple as a little paper angel that sits atop a tree. Start your new tradition today or keep an old one going, and don’t forget to think of it, and share.

Happy Holidays
